The jewel of historic Pickering Village
An original home-based business, this historic landmark was built for Dr. Byron Field as his residence and medical practice in 1911. The blueprints, a short history and Dr. Field”s photo are mounted in the center hall entrance.
The house fuses Georgian Revival and Neo-Classical architecture, with the facade and nine-panel-stained glass window holding significant heritage value. Additional unique features include curved and etched radiators, three fireplaces, four bay windows, burled oak cross-cut French glass doors, original woodwork and hand plaster workmanship.
The commercial conversion of Dr. Field”s house into a full-service culinary operation was completed in 2010. It includes six-ovens, commercial kitchen, retail space, walk-in cooler and thirty running feet of stainless-steel prep surface on the main and lower levels. The owners live upstairs.
Elegantly rustic outbuildings were added in 2012 to replicate key elements of the main house with a modern twist. The owners were honoured with a heritage award for maintaining the integrity and character of the original architecture.
